Chettinad Chicken Biriyani


  1. 300 gms Basmati rice
  2. 600 gms Chicken
  3. 2 Cardamoms
  4. 2 pcs. Cinnamons
  5. 1 inch Ginger
  6. 3 Garlic flakes
  7. 2 Onions
  8. 2 twigs Coriander leaves
  9. 1 bunch Mint leaves
  10. 1 tsp Black pepper
  11. 1 tsp Coconut paste
  12. ? Cup Curd ? sour.
  13. Salt to taste
  14. Oil for frying


  • Soak basmati rice in water for 30 minutes.
  • Grind ginger, garlic, cardamom and cinnamon to make a paste.
  • Mix the paste with coriander and mint leaves.
  • Add coconut paste, curd and black pepper.
    Mix it well.
  • Now add red chilli powder, coriander powder and salt.
    Cut chicken into pieces.
  • Marinate the chicken in this mixture.
  • Heat the oil and fry the chopped onions.
  • Add marinated chicken pieces.
  • Cook over medium flame till done.
  • Sprinkle the fried onions.
  • Put chicken pieces and cover it with rice.
  • Cover it properly and cook for 10 minutes.
